GP Services are busier than ever before! Delivering more appointments but in a different way. For an explanation please see Latest News on the right of the screen.

All the healthcare staff working in general practice are facing a big increase in demand for their services, so your patience is really appreciated.

Clinics & Services

In addition to the normal surgeries held we provide a range of clinics and services aimed at keeping you healthy and improving your wellbeing. Please specify if you need an appointment for any of the clinics.

Well Women Clinics

The practice nurses hold regular clinics for advice on all methods of family planning (including injections, the coil and ‘morning after’ contraception), pregnancy counselling, cervical smear tests, the menopause and HRT, hormone implants, ring pessary changes and post-natal checks.

Ante-Natal Clinics

Our team of practice midwives hold weekly ante-natal clinics at Burvill House Surgery on Monday and Tuesday afternoons.

Nurse Led Clinics

Our team of nurses offer wound management, ECGs, Ear Irrigation/ear wax removal and blood pressure monitoring either loaning machines for use at home or in the Practice.

CHD and Diabetic Clinics

All patients with coronary heart disease or diabetes need regular check-ups. Doctors and the practice nurses run fortnightly diabetic and CHD clinics. Patients are called to these clinics for their reviews according to their medical requirements. We also have the services of a Diabetic Nurse Specialist who will assist the Doctors with the more complicated diabetic cases.

Asthma and COPD Clinics

People with asthma also benefit from coming to a clinic. The practice nurses manage the appointments and have a recall system for all patients suffering from respiratory disease. We have the services of a COPD Nurse Specialist to see patients with this condition on a regular basis.

Minor Surgery and Cryotherapy

All of our doctors are qualified to perform minor surgery and joint injections. We also use liquid nitrogen (cryotherapy) to treat warts and some other skin conditions. Please see a doctor first to discuss treatment options.

Immunisations

NHS Travel Immunisations, tetanus and polio boosters, babies’ and children’s immunisations (including the MenC vaccine) and flu jabs are all given by the practice nurse and, with the exception of yellow fever are all free.

The Annual ‘Flu Jab’ (given every autumn) is particularly recommended for all over 65s and any adult or child with any chest/heart problems including asthma, diabetes and those patients who act as Carers for others.

Smoking Cessation Advice

Evidence shows that you are more likely to stop smoking for good if you get the right support. Our Health Care Assistants (HCA’s) provide a full smoking cessation advice service. We offer of range of treatments such as nicotine gum and patches. The support you need is available free of charge through the NHS.
